뉴저지주 노스베일에 위치한 iPlusOne Academy는 한국어·영어 이중언어 및 이중문화 교육을 제공하는 유아교육기관입니다.
아이들의 발달 단계에 맞는 교육 및 문화 경험을 통해 아이들이 자신감을 갖고 성장하도록 돕습니다.
우리의 미션
모든 아이가 소중한 존재로 존중받고 따뜻한 지지를 받으며, 배움의 즐거움을 발견하고 호기심을 키워 나갈 수 있도록 돕습니다. 한국어·영어 학습과 직접 체험하는 탐구 활동, 세심한 돌봄을 통해 자신감과 자립심, 언어 능력, 다음 배움의 단계로 성장해 갈 탄탄한 기초를 길러 줍니다.

이중언어 습득 · i+1 이론
아이들의 언어 발달을 위한 i+1 접근법
iPlusOne Academy는 아이들의 제 1언어와 언어 발달 과정을 존중하며, 제2언어를 자연스럽게 습득할 수 있도록 돕습니다.
이를 위해 언어학자 스티븐 크라센(Stephen Krashen)의 입력 가설(Input Hypothesis)에 기반한 i+1접근법을 교육과정에 적용하고 있습니다.
. 이 이론에 따르면, 학습자는 현재 자신의 언어 수준보다 조금 높은 수준의 언어를 이해할 수 있는 맥락에서 접할 때 언어 능력을 자연스럽게 발전시킬 수 있습니다. 여기서 중요한 것은 아이가 완전히 이해하지 못하는 어려운 언어가 아니라, 상황과 맥락을 통해 의미를 짐작하고 이해할 수 있는 언어를 접하는 것입니다.
쉽게 말해, 아이가 이미 알고 있는 언어를 바탕으로 새로운 표현과 단어를 조금씩 배워 나갈 때 자연스러운 언어 습득이 이루어집니다. 따라서 교사는 아이의 발달 수준에 맞는 언어를 사용하고, 놀이와 일상생활 속에서 충분히 이해할 수 있는 언어적 경험을 제공하는 중요한 역할을 합니다.
Our School
At our bilingual preschool, we are dedicated to providing a comprehensive program that nurtures the overall development of your child. Our approach encompasses physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and linguistic skills, recognizing and addressing the uniqueness of each child. In our secure and academically enriched environment, we prioritize creating a nurturing atmosphere that fosters emotional security.
Each month, you'll receive calendars detailing the themes and activities related to the skills we'll be focusing on, keeping you informed and engaged in your child's learning journey.
With nine classrooms, each equipped with its own children's bathroom, housed in our spacious 10,000 square foot facility, we prioritize security with surveillance cameras for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Outdoor exploration is encouraged in our two fenced-in playgrounds, complemented by an indoor gym for physical activity.
Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is paramount to us. Children and staff wear house shoes within our center, contributing to a healthy and tidy space for everyone.
As of March 2020, we want to assure you that our school is fully compliant with CDC guidelines, as well as state and local health departments. The safety and wellness of our students, staff, and families remain our top priority.
For your convenience, we offer Before Care from 8 am to 9 am and After Care from 3 pm to 5 pm at a flat rate. Rest assured, we extend the same level of care to your children as we would to our own. Your child's well-being and growth are at the heart of everything we do.

iPlusOne Academy에 오신 것을 환영합니다
이중언어·이중문화 교육의 여정이 살아 숨 쉬는 iPlusOne Academy에 오신 것을 환영합니다. 저는 설립자이자 원장인 Maria L. Kim입니다. 저의 이야기를 여러분과 나눌 수 있어 무척 기쁩니다.
한국계 미국인으로 성장하면서 한 가지 언어가 중심인 환경에서 두 언어를 배우는 어려움을 직접 경험했습니다. 두 살 때 미국에 온 저는 영어가 주로 사용되는 유치원 교실에 들어갔습니다. 당시에는 ESL 프로그램조차 아직 마련되지 않았지만, 집에서는 가족과 한국어로 대화하고 학교에서는 스스로 영어를 익혀 나갔습니다.
이민 1세대 부모님은 모국어와 문화를 지키는 일이 얼마나 중요한지 알고 계셨습니다. 한국인으로서의 정체성을 일깨워 주셨고, 처음에는 내키지 않았던 한국어 학교에도 다니게 하셨습니다. 고등학생이 되어서야 두 언어를 구사하는 일이 얼마나 큰 자산인지 깨달았습니다.
뉴욕대학교(NYU)에서 방송저널리즘 학사 학위를 받고 방송업계에서 여러 해 일했지만, 마음 한편에는 채워지지 않는 무언가가 있었습니다. 이후 유아교육 석사 학위를 취득하고 ESL 및 이중언어·이중문화 교육 자격을 갖추었습니다. 리지필드 공립학교 교육구에서 한국어 이중언어 프로그램을 설립하고 10년 동안 ESL을 가르쳤습니다.
두 아이의 엄마가 되어 이중언어 유치원을 찾으면서 기존 선택지에 아쉬움을 느꼈습니다. 한국어 중심 유치원에 다닌 아이들은 ESL 수업이 필요한 경우가 많았고, 영어만 사용하는 유치원에서는 한국어 실력이 약해지곤 했습니다. 교육자이자 부모로서 ‘진정한 이중언어 유치원’의 필요성을 깨달았습니다.
iPlusOne Academy는 어린아이들도 두 언어를 충분히 배울 수 있다는 믿음으로 교육합니다. 25년이 넘는 교육 및 교육과정 개발 경험을 바탕으로 가장 좋은 요소들을 엄선해 특별한 이중언어·이중문화 학습
